Top 5 Leading Organic Food Producing Countries

Organic foods are produced by methods that keeps completely with the standards of organic farming. Organic farming always promote ecological balance and it conserve bio diversity. In organic products farmers restricted to use  pesticides and fertilizers. They increases soil fertility. Organic products does not contain industrial solvents, or synthetic food additives. Selling food with the organic label is regulated by governmental food safety authorities, such as the US Department of Agriculture or European Commission. India is the largest organic food producers in the world. India has producing wide range of organic food item include the following Wheat, Rice, Jowar, Bajra, Maize, Pigeon pea and Chicken pea etc. organic movement in India has going smoothly and you can find organic food in many food stores. National Standards for Organic Products certifies  products are grown through organic farming, without the use of chemical fertilizers, pesticides, or induced hormone and this certification is issued by testing centers accredited by the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority, under the National Program for Organic Production of the Government of India.


Uganda has taken important steps in organic farming system and it is became the worlds second largest organic producing country. The products grown organically include cotton (lint, yarn and finished garments), coffee (Arabic and Robusta), sesame (sim sim), dried fruit (pineapples, apple bananas, mangoes, jack-fruit), fresh fruits (pineapple, apple bananas, passion fruits, avocados, papaya (pawpaw), ginger), jack-fruit, vanilla, cocoa, fish, Shea butter and Shea nuts, bird eyed chilies, dried hibiscus, honey and bark cloth etc and these products are exported to Europe, USA, Asia and other parts of Africa. the organic products are fully certified from internationally accredited certifying bodies operating in Uganda. It has over 400,000 internationally certified organic farmers and it is second largest certified farmers in world.


Mexico is the third largest organic food producing country. Organic products from Mexico’s demand has been increasing now a days. Mexico has over 1.3 million acres of land dedicated to organic agriculture. Mexico is main producer and largest exporter of organic coffee and the third largest producer of organic honey currently. Other organic crops grown in Mexico include corn, cacao, avocados, sesame seeds, cactus paddles, vanilla beans, milk, and dairy products.


Ethiopia is one of the largest organic food producing country now. It is basically an agricultural and pastoral country and almost 85% population depends on agriculture for their livelihood. Main organic crops grown in Ethiopia include Milk, Meat indigenous, Cereals, Roots and tubers, Maize, Sorghum, Wheat, Broad beans, horse beans and Coffee. Coffee export gives 65% of the foreign exchange for the country.


Tanzania is one the major organic food producing country in the world, it is in fifth position. It has a wide range of natural resources and a favorable climate that allows various crops to be grown, such as maize, coffee, cotton, tea, cashew nuts, wheat, sugarcane, and various horticultural crops. Almost 45,000 hectares of agricultural land in Tanzania is certified organic and there about 750 farmers are working. The major certified organic products from Tanzania are cotton, dried herbs, spices, coffee, black tea, ginger, vegetable oils, honey, cashew nuts, citrus, papaya, guava, mango, banana, onion, and garlic. Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, the Tanzanian Bureau of Standards and the Tanzanian Food and Drugs Authority (TFDA) are responsible for food quality and safety.
