I have used Whirlpool 1-2-3 top load 6 Kg for since last 3 years. It is the worst machine I ever bought. Ever since I bought, it is full of problems. Then you have to take AMC (after the warranty expires after one year) without which continuing with the machine is immpossible. That means a hefty amount that company charges every ear. Now I have decided to buy a new one.

I agree with you completely. My experience is similar to yours. Bought this Make Washing Machine along with a large Refrigerator of the same Make about 4 years back from Big Bazaar Hyderabad. Ever since, have been forced to regularly shell out money for failing parts for both the Washing Machine as well as the Refrigerator and the amount is in thousands. Washing Machine’s PC Board conked twice costing Rs. 3200.00 apiece. Had to replace parts on the Refrigerator couple of times costing around Rs. 1900.00 and Rs. 1700.00 – Once within the Warranty period, as the Company insisted the parts were not covered under warranty. Refrigerator’s Door Handle is so flimsy, it keeps on coming off. They send their Representative promptly upon contacting with an issue , but their contention is that the parts that have failed cannot be repaired and have to be replaced by the Customer. This brand is CRASS. Have used Sanyo fully automatic machine in the past continuously for 14 Years on a daily basis and was still going strong – Gave it away to the Domestic Help and bought this Garbage. No more spending a penny on these junks. Planning to go for IFB BOSCH now. Just sharing my experience to prepare others to be careful

IFB is no way related to Germany. There is another IFB in Germany which is different. This IFB stands for India Fine Blanks. There was a time when IFB was considered the best in India for front loading machines. But today they are one of the worst in India due to quality issues and poor support. I was forced to throw away one due to frequent board failure and irresponsible support. It is advisable to keep away from IFB.
There are complaints about Samsung regarding clothes getting torn due to excessive high speed spinning during rinse.
So far I have not heard any serious complaints about LG.

I have an IFB front loading W . machine. It has given us a lot of trouble just after an year of purchase.Very Loud noise while spinning action, with severe vibrations and moving farther away from its kept position. AM charges are too high and services erratic and irresponsible. And IFB is an Indian brand..not German. No one should buy this. I am suffering with this worst piece of W.machine for about 4 years. Will buy a SAMSUNG /BOSCH /SIEMENS very soon

I agree with you people. IFB has frequent problems and the customer service is terrible. They take away the machine and kept there for months. This happened around 5-6 times.

none of the review actually useful. read all the comments no one is agreeing to one brand which is best or worst. its all mixed replies and nothing decisive can be made out of it.

If there were a single brand which was better than others in all respects, people would have gone for only that. Other companies would have closed down. Each one will have some merits and drawbacks. Depending on our priorities we need to choose. The priority will vary from person to person. It could be power consumption, silent operation, cost, good service, looks, less water consumption, better cleaning of soiled clothes, durability, more functionality, more programs, slow spin to avoid damage to delicate clothes, fast spin for better drying etc etc. No single machine will be best in all respects.

If u want best washing results go for FRONT LOAD machines.
Best machines in Front Load are No.1 LG, 2. IFB.
If u are spending Rs.25000 and above LG and IFB’s are best products for life long.
i have been using LG front load for 5 years still no problems at all.

Samsung, whirlpool and videocon are not worth to buy and inferior quality.

IFB has the worst service… the service person STOLE the main board of the washing machine.
Even after complaining to the customer care no one bothered to help us.
After asking to send some other service person, another Shady guy comes by. He tells that the board is an older one and will not come in a box as it is out of production.
Again the IFB Customer care has no solution to this.
Damn IFB… its a vortex which sxxxs money.

Thank you Nideesh for an enlightening topic on washing machines, which generates a lot of interest and valuable comments. Tomy’s comments are most mature indeed and I totally agree with him, while Saajan’s comment on March 4, 2013 at 4:36 PM is hilarious as the spelling of “important” was incorrect. To confirm with Tomy’s comments, I do agree with him about the IFB washing machines as there is one in my bungalow languishing for many years without being used as it leaks all over, in spite of changing numerous parts at great expense right from the time we bought the machine. Yes, if Saajan had put IFB before the “washing machines” then the spelling was very correct indeed :).

Thanks for the comments. i also have bad experience with IFB . It needed very costly repairs after 2.5 years and later also. And then they try to sell you AMC , which doesn’t cover many parts! Obviously servicing is a good business. I gave up on them. No IFB

I purchased whirlpool in 2010. Had an issue and gave a complaint but the service guys never fixed it till now, nearly 50 days. Top brand but not service after sale. Wast of money. On top of that, they do not respond despite repeated calling, emailing. They sent a third party service guy who was very rude with my old mother. They come at whatever time they want and behave very badly. Very disappointing. Planning to purchase a new washing machine again, but a different brand this time.

Want to buy a front load washing machine with 6 kg capacity & budget of 25 k. The brands in my mind are LG and IFB. LG comes with Direct Drive with 6 motion including Baby care. LG 6 kg supports max of 4.5 to 5 kg due to burden with direct drive drum. Where as IFB have standard washing with belt drives which support full of 6 kg of cloths without Baby wash and have automatic programming concept which supports for older people to operate it. We are 4 with one new born baby. Finally, which one is best in these two brands in service, spare parts, warranty, durability and power consuming as well. Please do help me out…

Wanna thank you all guys for giving feedback on almost all brands, however, even I am planning to buy a new automatic top loading, but bit confused. earlier I had shortlisted, Whirlpool, IFB, LG. But after going through above feedback, will keep my self away from IFB and Whirlpool. But did anybody noticed, there is very little or no negative feedback on Samsung. Can anybody tell is this the best buy machine.
Can we have one name from Samsung/LG/IFB/Whirlpool, which suits average Indian for top loading 8kg machine.

I am using Samsung top load fully automatic washing machine for the last 9 years and there was only 1 instance where I had to call the customer service guy. he turned up promptly within hours of my call and the problem was a 50 paise coin from one of my clothes, which had got stuck somewhere . Servicing charge is reasonable. I think Samsung would be my choice again, as I am planning to go in for a new machine for the sheer reason of a higher capacity due to additions in my family.

lg or samsung ?? both dirt cheap south korean companies..i own whirlpool and its is made in italy..and that good enough reason to buy it…don’t buy anything which is manufactured in india even if it is a mercedes benz car…go for a siemens or bosch washing machines…made in germany..

dont be so negetive about indian company and quality of their product. Samsung might be a dirt cheap korean company according to you but definitely has more market share than italian giant whirlpool in home appliance market in india

I….being a techno savvy did lots n lots of research on whether wich brand is good for washing machine…….wich washing machine to buy……after all dis…..i can say this very cery confidently tht SIEMENS is the best brand of washing machine u can get in india…..and BOSCH is also very good…!!!!!

And I am saying this taking into consideration each & every aspect tht u think of…..while buying a washing machine…..its washing quality…..built quality….durability….features….technology…..service….spare parts….u just be confident abt al these…!!!!

And I am not doing any marketing of any company….but its my humble request tht…..if u really wanna buy the best washing machine….go for SIEMENS….or BOSCH….!!!!!

it wil look a bit costly for u….but its better than spending tht sameamount of money in getting any othr machine repaired…!!!!

I just recently bought a new washing machine SIEMENS WM12E361IN…..Costing around Rs.42,500…..& Its damm Awssum…!!!!!

I would like to share my experience which might help you to choose the best one out of all the brands. I own 5.5 KG front load SAMSUNG washing machine(Model#WF8552SEH). I bought this after a long research and frankly speaking, I feel blessed having it and by the way it performs. I’m using it for the past 5 years, I use it weekly twice or thrice, believe me I haven’t faced any issue with it. I recommend you to go for SAMSUNG front load 5.5KG washing machines if you looking for a budgeted one and if there 4 to 5 family members and beyond 5.5KG if there are more than 5 in your family.

If you are looking for a costlier one, I would recommend SIEMENS or BOSCH but still SAMSUNG has major command on home appliances in INDIA and has good customer service.

    All the best.

    Is anybody has / had IFB-Serena ?
    Which year you bought ?
Is any complaints for Serena and which year ?
Is the service team corrected it ?
    Is it costly service ?
Is it still working or not ?
If anybody has / had Serena. Otherwise please. Dont answer for my question.

In 2002, we bought a semi automatic.
    Whirlpool 1-2, 1-2 handwash whitemagic 6Kg @ 8500 Rs.
Positive side – for mine – Still it is working.
Old age complaint – for mine – (1) drain valve minor leak due to rubber washer oldage. Now we are clean self the drain valve area in every 3 months for stop increased level of leak. (2) Rust came below the structure. One side down like a punctured car. Now it is the right time for patch it. (3) Automatic spin break system for accidental opening and safety failed. But automatic switching still perfect.
For your knowledge all the above 3 are appeared only after 10 years.

  72. CYRIL
    February 18, 2014 at 7:56 am

    Continuation of my previous article
    Postive side – for mine
    (1) With in 10 year no service required. After that one service from a local servicer regarding the leak in drain valve. Now every 3 months we are doing that self. Because it is not much technical.
(Drain valve leak what I mean is, the drain valve rubber washer getting old and losing its elasticity. Due to this valve fails to hold water in the wash tub. The leak increases with the mud sedimented inside valve. So open the valve and clean the area)
(The leaked water goes through drain hose. It cannot drip on floor)
    (2) Timers, selecting knobes, switches are working perfectly as new one. When electricity go timers automatically pause and resumes when power come back. This is not a new feature but, still some semi automatics not have this. And it is really useful in Kerala where unexpected power failures are high. We normally change the timer even machine is working. Still perfect.

  73. CYRIL
    February 21, 2014 at 7:38 am

    Continuation of my previous article.
    Negative side:
    1. For mine, the dryer makes an inconviniency since 2002.
Shaking is the problem. If the load is low or high it will shake.
I have to exactly put the medium load for dry.
We cannot simply put the wet cloths to dryer
We have to remove the major water first. But jeans and bedsheet it is difficult.
And we have to evenly distribute load. Large cloth under and small cloths above
But still balancing problem. The dryer will work but in a half speed due to shaking.
If it able to overcome that speed, then it will work properly. The speed lags due to shake
For reduce shake, I have to catch the machine.
For every 3 drying I normally gets this luck ones.
The occurence is more in evening time. So Iam thinking it is due to the low power of motor also
The dryer motor for mine is 110W.
So, I suggest 130 is minimum and 150 is reccommended.
So, the drier can able to cross over the problematic speed and evening problems
This is my opinion. Iam not an engineer.
    1. Whirlpool semi-automatic 1-2 1-2 handwash whitemagic is good but drier should be more than 130 Watts.

    1. CYRIL
      February 22, 2014 at 6:54 pm

Yes. After sale service is important.
Whenever I check on internet most of the opinions are against IFB
      I dont know why.
Most of them are saying their service is bad.
Realty i dont know. Now I gave advance for Bosch.

  76. CYRIL
    March 1, 2014 at 8:52 am

Yes. Water consumption seems really low.
    Electric consumption I dont know
One notice sticked infront of the machine
In that dryer seems D class. And one A+ is there. I dont know it for washing quality or for overall performance.
    The realty I dont know.
The company man said that the detergent should be front loader detergent.
In supermarkets it costs 225 per Kg.
    And 10gm per 1Kg clothe.

  77. CYRIL
    March 1, 2014 at 11:14 am

    Program controller
    1. Wheel model ( Main program selector )
    2. Push switches 6. These push switches are just below the LED disply
Each push switch has each functions
    First- Temperature
    Thrird-delay start
    Fourth-speed wash
    Fifth-intensive was
    Sixth-extra rinse
Original programs are in the wheel switch. First we have to rotate the wheel.
If we want, then we can change some alterations by using the 6 switches.

  78. CYRIL
    March 1, 2014 at 11:57 am

    Available rpm 800,700,600,400, no spin.
    500 isnt there.
    Temperatures cold, 20, 30, 40, 60, 90 degree celcius.
Delay wash 1 hour to 24 hour.
4th button is ‘speed wash’. Actually I dont know how it works.
It is not a main program. Main programs are in the wheel
It is making some adjustment in the overal process what we selected from wheel.
Thus overal time reduces. In some program it reduces just 5 minutes. In some programs 30 minutes. I dont know weather the machine works hard for this.
In common sense time reduces means electricity also reduces.

    5th is (Intensive wash)
This seems just opposite of speed wash.
5 – 30 minutes are taking more for different wheel selections.

6 th ‘ Extra rinse’ additional rinse by one more water taking and one more spin.
Speed wash and intensive wash cant select together.

  79. CYRIL
    March 1, 2014 at 6:58 pm

    Program 1. Cotton
    ( hard-wearing fabrics – as per manual)
Preset time 2 hour 13 minutes. Spin 800. Weight 6 Kg. Temperature 60 degree Celcius.(in machine LED disply)
    We can change temp to 40, 30, 20, cold, 90, 60.
    Similarly spin 800, 700, 600, 400 and no spin.
Water consumption and electricity details by company’s manual
Cotton 90 degree Celcius is 76 litres. 2,45kwh. Time 2 hours and 30 minutes.
I dont know why they put comma in electricity. It may be yearly. Realty I dont know
And for all other temperatures in this mode, the time and water is same. That is 2h 15minutes and 68 L.
    Electricity for 60 C is 1,60 40 C is 0,95 20C is 0,30kwh
Here we can understand each 10 ·C need approximately 0,30kwh
And we can select rinse plus. Then time shown in the disply is 2h and 25m
    And for intensive is 3h22m
Intensive + rinse plus is 3h33m
    And speedwash 1h20m
Speed wash + rinse plus 1h30m
Note: ( If we select speed wash, the laundry weight for cotton shows 3.5kg instead 6kg. )

  80. CYRIL
    March 1, 2014 at 7:42 pm

    Program 2 Prewash
    (Prewash with Cotton program)
Best of my knowledge it is the longest program in that machine
Here, i didnt got the company manual
In the machine, the LED disply shows preset details and options are same as Cotton except the timings.
    Preset time is 2h47m 6kg.
    Speed wash 1h54m 3.5kg.
    Speed wash + rinse plus 2h04m 3.5kg.
    Rinse plus 2h59m 6kg.
    Intensive 3h56m 6kg.
    Intensive + rinse plus 4h07m 6kg
Intensive + speed wash I told we cant select this both together.
I dont know electricity for this cycle.

  81. CYRIL
    March 1, 2014 at 8:59 pm

I didnt wash in 6kg cotton or 6kg prewash
I will not. I am not ready for work it with full load.
I think Cotton 20′C with speed wash (3.5kg) is economical. If need, I can choose rinse plus also
So time will be 1h20m and 10m extra for rinse plus, if I select it.

  82. CYRIL
    March 2, 2014 at 9:26 am

    Program 3 Hygiene
    Preset 40′C max 60′C. 6Kg 800rpm time 2h38m. (25m more than Cotton)
But Intensive 2h53m. Much lesserthan Cotton Intensive.
Speed wash 3.5Kg. 2h03m. Rinse plus is 16m. So rinsing may be really good. This not have a prewash.
I may not use this. Speed wash cotton is more economical.

    Program 4 Easy Care
    3Kg 800 40′C 1h35m
Rinse plus 9m. Intensive 5m. Speedwash saves 31m.
I think speedwash easycare is less expensive than that of Cotton.

Program 5 Easy care with prewash
    Take 31m extra.

  83. CYRIL
    March 2, 2014 at 10:23 am

    Program 6 Daily wash
    2.5Kg 800rpm 40′C 57m
Rinse plus 9m, speed wash saves 11m, intensive 12m, temp max 40′C
    This is also less expensive.

    Program 7 Delicate/Silk
    2Kg 30′C 600rpm 43m.
Speed wash or intensive variation 5m. Rinse plus 6m.

    Program 8 Sports wear
    30′C 800rpm 2Kg 55m
Speed wash or intensive variation 5m. Rinse plus 7m.

  84. CYRIL
    March 2, 2014 at 10:47 am

    Program 9 Wool
    2Kg 40′C 800rpm 40m
No speedwash, no intensive, no rinse plus. May be due to maintain wool’s life.
But temp and spin can change.

    Program 10 Shirt
    2Kg 40′C 400rpm 1h05m
Rinse plus 8m, intensive 5m, speedwash saves 5m.

    Program 11 Jeans
    3Kg 30′C 800rpm 1h37m
    Speedwash saves 5m, Intensive 5m, rinseplus11m.

    Program 12 Super30
    3.5Kg 30′C 800rpm 30m
Temp and speed can change. No rinseplus, no speedwash, no intensive

using 7kg front load whirlpool without any issues for 9 years, should say it is imported and excellent m/c. recently it started to have some issues, service was prompt, and replaced timer and lock, cost me around 7k. now after 4 months it is having issues again with door lock. i think once u start to have issues, go for a new machine instead of repairing ’cause u end up paying as much in an year or so…thinking of buying a new one

Hello everyone, I’m happy to introduce our new products which are in stock right now, the washing machine that uses beads instead of water. It cleans faster than anyother machine, the xeros washer replaces the majority of water in a wash cycle with tiny polymer beads that remove stains and dirt. We have our agents or representatives all over the country.
